Project Background

In this project, I took on a core role in designing and developing a comprehensive Learning Management System (LMS) aimed at enhancing user experience and streamlining educational processes. From initial discovery to final deployment, I focused on creating a platform that met the diverse needs of students, educators, and administrators. My work encompassed the full design lifecycle, including user research, wireframing, UI/UX design, and usability testing, to ensure intuitive navigation, accessibility, and engagement. Working closely with developers, I helped bring the interface to life, maintaining a consistent focus on user-centered functionality and seamless interaction across devices. This project allowed me to contribute to an impactful tool that fosters more accessible and efficient learning experiences.

Design Goals & Objective

• Design an e-learning platform that provides high-quality, accessible education for everyone.

• Create a virtual learning space to cater and facilitate for distance learning, both for fresh graduates looking to enter a new field or working adults who are looking to upskill.

• Provide a holistic development programme for digital upskilling, inclusive of competency training, career management and improving workplace skills.

Building User Empathy

TalentLabs aims to serve two groups of users as their target audience: fresh graduates or working adults looking to enter the tech field, as well as users who just want to pick up a new skill in this area. These groups are used as the key user personas when developing the product.

Roadmap & Flowchart

In the early stages of the product, we have identified a few key functionalities that would be implemented. First is the user dashboard, which combines all the functions into an area which makes it more accessible for users. The second most important function is to create a virtual “classroom” that allows users to watch lecture videos, engage in discussions as well as download any necessary reading materials or assignments. Lastly, a careers section focusing on job applications after completing courses from TalentLabs. Overall, the goal is to create a holistic platform that caters to educating people in tech and to also help them get a job right after.

Site Map & Subsections

Wireframes

Once the flow diagram was established, wireframes were made, starting from low-fi wireframes and then later moving on to high-fi wireframes to identify all of the functionalities and buttons clearly.

From Wireframes to Visuals

After developing the wireframes, we slowly start to develop the designs. First by identifying the colour palette, typeface and the overall aesthetic of the platform.

Dashboard

Everything users would need to keep track of their course progression on one screen: upcoming lessons, tasks, recent announcements, and current grade. users can also access other tabs such as modules, schedules, careers and community section from here.

Class Modules

An overview of class content and syllabus in this page. users are also able to access lectures, assignments and reading materials here. upon clicking, users will be redirected into a virtual classroom.

Virtual Classroom

This page is designed with a side navigation where users are able to easily access syllabus and content with a scroll. users are also able to see which chapters contain reading material, projects and assignments here. this makes navigating through the class seamless and comfortable.

Schedule

A personalised calendar to keep updated with upcoming lectures, classes and future assignments. users are also able to book in mentoring sessions in this page.

Tasks

An assignment page for users to access a list of their task needed to be done and graded in order to complete the course. users are also able to view feedback given by mentors.

Careers

A section dedicated for users to apply into jobs on our platform after completing their courses. users will be able to see the status of their application and jobs related to your course will be recommended at the bottom.

Profile

To enhance Talentlab's functionality as an alternative job application platform, our profile page also allows employers to seamlessly view detailed profiles of applicants, showcasing their skills, experiences, and qualifications in an organized, comprehensive format.

Notifications

Considering there are many features on the platform, it is essential for ensuring users are effectively informed of class updates, assignments, deadlines, and any other related announcements in a timely and organised manner.

Closing Thoughts

Being a part of the team to design Talentlabs was a good opportunity to build an impactful educational platform that bridges the gap between learning and career development in the tech industry. The platform’s design needed to reflect both professionalism and user-friendliness, catering to learners at various stages of their tech journey. By creating a seamless and intuitive experience, we enabled users to easily access valuable courses, certifications, and career services, while also ensuring the site was scalable and responsive to meet the growing demand for online education.

Key Takeaways
