Atlas Ice
Designing a fleet and inventory management system that streamlines vehicle routes, tracks inventory in real-time, and optimises delivery operations for better efficiency.
Overview
Atlas Ice is a major player in the Malaysian ice manufacturing industry. Initially specializing in block ice, Atlas Ice expanded into tube ice production, which has now become its core business. The company serves a diverse range of customers, from small roadside stalls to large restaurants, hotels, and food processing companies.
With a large network of factories across Malaysia, Atlas Ice produces over tonnes of ice daily. Their operations are largely supported by thousands of lorries and employees, ensuring efficient distribution and customer satisfaction.

Project Background
In response to the growing demand for an efficient and streamlined logistics operation, we developed a comprehensive fleet and inventory management system tailored specifically for ice delivery. The core objective of this web application is to enhance the coordination between sales teams, drivers, and logistics coordinators, ensuring that deliveries are carried out smoothly and efficiently.
The system targets two primary user groups: sales coordinators and drivers. Sales coordinators use the web app to manage and assign delivery routes, track fleet status, and oversee inventory levels. For drivers, the platform provides a dedicated mobile app that allows them to record their daily sales and track deliveries in real time. This mobile app not only optimises the delivery process but also ensures that all sales data is immediately available for review through the integrated web portal.
With this system, we aim to provide a reliable, scalable solution that streamlines the entire sales and delivery process for ice distribution businesses.
Objectives
The primary goal of the fleet and inventory management system is to create a seamless, efficient process for managing ice delivery logistics. Below are the key objectives that guide the development and deployment of the system:
• Improve Sales Tracking and Reporting
• Enhance Fleet Management
• Ensure Real-time Inventory Control
• Improve Communication and Coordination
Target Audience
• Sales Coordinator: Sales coordinators are responsible for managing the delivery schedule and ensuring customer satisfaction. The web app provides tools that enable them to route assignment and optimisation, fleet monitoring and order management.
• Drivers: Drivers play a crucial role in the delivery process, and the mobile app is built with their daily tasks in mind. The key features designed for drivers include of real-time route information, sales recording, inventory updates and delivery tracking.
Defining Design Direction
In this stage, I have contributed to the design direction of their product. Design principles serve as the guiding rules that inform every decision related to the user interface. These principles focus on creating a modern, clean aesthetic or prioritising simplicity and usability. This stage helps ensure that the visual direction consistently reflects the project’s goals, brand identity, and user expectations, offering a clear path forward for the design team.

Proposed Design
The proposed design presents a cohesive visual and functional approach that aligns with the project’s goals and user needs. It features a modern, intuitive interface that enhances usability while maintaining a strong visual identity. The design integrates a clean layout, optimised for user flows, with a balanced use of colours, typography, and interactive elements that reflect the brand's personality. Key screens have been thoughtfully crafted to ensure a seamless user experience, while the consistent application of design principles, such as visual hierarchy and accessibility, ensures that the system is easy to navigate and engaging for all users. This design proposal offers a scalable and user-centred solution that enhances the overall product experience.

Closing Thoughts
Contributing to the design direction and UI ideas for a fleet and logistics management system was a rewarding experience that involved creating a user-centered solution tailored to the complex workflows of drivers, dispatchers, and sales coordinators. By focusing on usability, clarity, and efficiency, the design aimed to streamline the day-to-day operations, enabling users to manage routes, deliveries, and inventories with greater ease. The collaborative process ensured that the interface was not only visually appealing but also highly functional, supporting real-time decision-making and improving overall fleet performance.
Key Takeaways
Simplified Complex Workflows: By focusing on clarity and structure, the design translated intricate logistics processes into straightforward, easy-to-understand user flows, making route planning and inventory management more accessible.
Consistency and Usability: A consistent design system across the web and mobile apps improved usability and familiarity, providing users with a cohesive experience whether they were managing operations from a desktop or on the road via mobile devices.
Collaboration for Feedback: The design process involved active collaboration with key stakeholders, including drivers and sales coordinators, ensuring that feedback was incorporated to address pain points and optimize the system’s user experience.
Real-Time Data Integration: The UI allowed for the seamless integration of real-time data, helping users monitor deliveries, track vehicles, and manage inventories dynamically, enabling better decision-making and problem-solving on the go.
